Who we are
This website belongs to Smiles Creative Arts, a creative, media and technology agency in Kampala, Uganda. This page explains, in plain words, what information we handle when you visit www.smiles-ca.com and how to reach us about it.
What we collect
- What you send us. When you use the Start a project form, the chat button or a contact link, your message goes to us through WhatsApp or email. We only receive what you choose to write (for example your name, phone number or email) and we use it to reply to you and to talk about your project.
- Download counts. When you use a free download, we add one to a counter. To avoid counting the same person twice in a day we keep a scrambled code made from your connection address for 24 hours. It cannot be turned back into your address, and it is not linked to your name.
- No accounts, no adverts. The public website has no sign-in, no advertising and no tracking of you across other websites.
What is saved on your device
This website saves a few small settings in your browser so it can remember you. These stay on your device and are not sent to us:
- your light or dark mode choice
- your accessibility choices (text size, contrast, paused animations and so on)
- the date a seasonal greeting pop-up was last shown, so it does not keep appearing
You can clear these at any time in your browser settings or with the Reset button in the accessibility panel.
Other services used on the site
- Google Fonts loads the website lettering from Google, so Google can see that your browser asked for the fonts.
- YouTube videos on project pages use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube may set its own cookies when you press play.
- WhatsApp and social media links take you to those services, which have their own privacy rules.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your information. We only share it with people who help us do the work you asked for (for example a printer or a hosting provider), and when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Messages and project details are kept for as long as we work together and for a reasonable time afterwards for our records, then deleted or archived securely.
Your rights
Under Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, you can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. You can also withdraw your permission at any time. Write to us using the contact details below and we will respond as soon as we can.
Children
This website is meant for organizations and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this page
When we change how the website works, we will update this page and the date below.
